Susan became deaf at the age of four after contracting spinal meningitis. She attended public school in Manhattan, Kansas and graduated with honors. She attended East Central University where she began using interpreters and formally learned sign language at the age 18.
Susan served as an evaluator for the Kansas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing’s KQAS system and for the Kansas Board of Education as educational interpreter performance assessment (EIPA).
Susan has worked for the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services, as program manager for Services to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. She’s served on several advisory committees related to deafness, and was one of the task force members who pushed for the passage of the Oklahoma Educational Interpreter for the Deaf Act (SB 1328). Susan obtained her RID Certified Deaf Interpreter in 2005. On May 22, 2006; Susan became the director of Oklahoma City Sorenson Call Center and continues to evaluate for Services to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing unit.
